ROB & EMILY'S SURPRISE PROPOSAL PHOTOGRAPHY AT BATH ROYAL CRESCENT

There are shoots that give me goosebumps… and then there's proposal photography. Rob pulled off one of the best surprises I’ve ever had the joy of photographing, and honestly, I’m still buzzing from it.

THE PLAN

Rob & Emily’s story started out as best mates. Eight years ago, when they were just 17, that friendship turned into something more, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Bath is one of their favourite places, so when Rob messaged me with an idea to pop the question on their trip there, I was so in. He asked for suggestions of places and we both agreed Bath's Royal Crescent was the place.

We came up with a plan: my husband and I would hang out on the grass pretending to be just another couple enjoying the view. When Rob and Emily strolled up, he’d ask me to take a quick photo on his phone. That was my cue.

THE BIG MOMENT

So there we were, sun shining, tourists milling about, me trying to look casual with my camera tucked away. Rob handed me his phone, posed with Emily… and then instead of smiling for the photo, he dropped to one knee and pulled out the ring.

Emily’s face? Pure shock. Totally blindsided in the best way possible. She went from laughing, to gasping, to happy tears in about two seconds flat. Everyone around us — total strangers — started clapping and cheering.

CELEBRATING IN STYLE

Rob came prepared. Out came the champagne and glasses, and we all joined in celebrating as they hugged, kissed, and laughed their way through the moment. I stayed back just enough to let them soak it in, but close enough to catch every smile and every squeeze.

After the initial whirlwind, we took a slow walk around Bath and grabbed some more relaxed shots — just the two of them, newly engaged, glowing and still riding the high.

WHY I'LL NEVER GET BORED OF PROPOSAL PHOTOGRAPHY

There’s something about proposal photography that feels different from any other shoot. Weddings are incredible, of course, but proposals? They’re so beautiful. Unplanned. Full of nerves and adrenaline and pure emotion.

Being part of Rob & Emily’s moment reminded me why I love what I do — freezing time during life’s biggest surprises, so couples can relive them again and again.
